The materials for collage are remnants from printmaking projects. I think of the materials as found rather than generated because by the time I use them they’ve been sitting around for awhile and are independent of their original intent. I often turn the textiles over and seek the subtle marks and color that may have come through the backside. Working with a limited supply and only with what’s at hand pushes me to look for different relationships than I might otherwise. Adding sewing has allowed me to play with form and construction and to discover through an experimental process how to transform the unfinished parts and pieces of projects that didn’t materialize but have a story embedded.
Quarantine sketchbook series. Textile collages sewn together using remnant fabric from printing projects and stretched on 11x11 frames.
